ACE Offers Guidance on Conflicts of Interest in Higher
Education
Washington — The American
Council on Education has released a working paper meant to provide
guidance to college administrators on conflict-of-interest issues. The
paper outlines the kinds of policies that higher-education institutions
should have in place, along with situations that administrators should
consider under conflict-of-interest policies, such as when a college
official can accept a gift or own stock in a company.
The paper also covers conflicts of interest that institutions might
face in research or commercial deals, such as when a vendor offers a
gift to an institution.

| Ethics in action |
The range of issues facing ethics and compliance professionals is
substantial: sexual harassment, data protection and data privacy,
creating a code of conduct that works, navigating the Foreign Corrupt
Practices Act (FCPA) and anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws to name but a
few. The Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) is a
non-profit membership association designed to help ethics and compliance
officers meet these challenges, build a successful enterprise risk
management and meet the standards for an effective ethics and compliance
program under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
The SCCE provides its members with a bi-monthly magazine, annual
Compliance and Ethics Institute, four-day intensive Academies,
peer-to-peer interaction opportunities and a certification program
to help increase knowledge and the sharing of best practices. The
net result: a better ability to design a comprehensive ethics and
compliance program that works, from the right tone at the top to proper
actions and decisions in even the farthest corner of a global
organization.
