SGMC Health - SGMC Health celebrated National Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week, November 5-11, 2023, at each of its campuses. The Compliance department collaborated with Information Services and the HIPAA Privacy Departments to create a 2023 Compliance Carnival with each team member showcasing their “Compliance Squad” camaraderie.
The goal was to create a fun learning environment outside the typical classroom setting. SGMC Health employees engaged with the Compliance team while playing carnival games which included a Compliance Wheel, “Sitting Duck” Pond, “Gone Phishing” game, photo booth, and “Ethics” Ladder Ball. While games took each employee about 5 minutes from start to finish, employees read aloud a tip card that reinforced compliance reporting requirements, hotline education, Code of Conduct policy, HIPAA rules and IT Security awareness. Each booth host engaged employees in conversation about integrity, ethics and honesty.
Candy, popcorn and game prizes were provided to all participants. SGMC Health’s Medical Director, Dr. Pankaj Agrawal, was photographed attesting to his COMMIT-MINT to Compliance.
This year was SGMC Health’s largest participation in the National Corporate Compliance Week with over 300 employees joining in the celebration. In addition to the carnival, the Compliance team offered a drawing for two employees who submitted a brief statement sharing their view on “Why I Comply.”
At the conclusion of the week, the Compliance Department was recognized by the President and CEO, Mr. Ronald Dean, during SGMC Health’s board meeting. Mr. Dean, was photographed, enjoying ladder ball competition and the photo booth with our Compliance Officer, Alison Peterman. As a part of Mr. Dean’s acknowledgment for the success of the Corporate Compliance Week, he requested that the Compliance department make it an annual event because of its popularity among SGMC Health employees. We are all looking forward to next year!
CannonDesign- This year CannonDesign celebrated our third annual Ethics and Compliance Week, which featured a variety of simple learnings and light-hearted activities. We created several posters to be shared in each of our offices – one highlighted the “elements” of an effective ethics and compliance program and the others introduced Ethics and Compliance Week. To kick off this week, our CEO delivered a compelling message, emphasizing the critical role of upholding an ethical culture and its direct alignment with our firm's Living-Centered Design ethos. Over the previous 8 months, we refreshed our Code of Conduct and, since it was ready to be published, we took the opportunity to launch the Code on the first day of the week. Throughout the week, we offered what we dubbed our "daily dose" of ethics and compliance, accompanied by a fun activity. The daily dose included the Code of Conduct launch, the publishing of our quarterly newsletter, the Golden Rules of Ethics and Compliance, some meaningful quotes from the E&C Team, and relevant articles. The activities included a word search puzzle, an identify “what’s wrong with this” image, a match the quote to the author activity, and, a “Do Tell” Amnesty-type day, where employees were encouraged to share their “oops” moments (with no judgment). On the final day of the week, we kept things lighthearted and shared some compliance-themed cocktail recipes intended to keep the E&C celebration going all weekend and, of course, a closing message from our Director of Ethics and Compliance. All of the daily activities were optional, but employees who did participate at least once during the week were incentivized with prizes from the E&C Team.
V2X - This year we celebrated our second annual Ethics and Compliance Week, which featured a variety of different activities that were available to all employees. To kick off the week, our CEO shared a message on the importance of ethics within our organization and our speak-up culture coupled with a Corporate Ethics newsletter featuring the week’s activities. We distributed a pre-recorded video interview with one of our senior leaders where he shared how our Core Values play a role in the work he does daily, how to stay true to your values when faced with a tough decision, and more. On Tuesday, we shared our Ethical Decision-Making Model that answered 5 questions presented in our Code of Conduct and provided emp loyees with resources to help address those questions. Employees also had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Real vs. Reel’ activity where five scenarios were presented, and they had to figure out which of the scenarios was a real ethics case or if it was a ‘reel.’ Wednesday, we held a webinar that focused on ‘Retaliation versus Accountability’ and was presented by a member of the Corporate Ethics team and a member of our legal team. The webinar shared the difference between the two, how to identify Retaliation and Accountability, and shared tips to help employees recognize retaliation. To wrap up the week we posted our ‘Employees on the Air’ videos where employees throughout the organization submitted videos to Corporate Ethics and had the opportunity to share their take on ethics within our organization. We also asked employees to provide feedback through a survey to help us improve in the years to come. We look forward to celebrating Ethics and Compliance Week in 2024!
The Choctaw Nation Of Oklahoma - For our first year of celebrating, we decided to focus on our Code of Ethics and the Conflict-of-Interest policy this year. We created crossword and word search puzzles, plus an online “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” game, where we had a drawing and gave out gift certificates to associates that participated in the online game. Cups and coozies with the Choctaw Nation’s values on them were handed out, which included a flyer to highlight our Compliance & Ethics team and contact information. Later in the week, we hosted a “Compliance is Sweet” cookie social to meet and greet associates and answer questions. Since C&E week fell around Vetera n’s Day, we used it as an opportunity to play our Code Talkers video. This video highlights the Choctaw military members who used the Choctaw language as “code” during WW1, where they were placed strategically on front lines and at command posts so that messages could be transmitted without being understood by the enemy. We also used Compliance & Ethics Week to roll out our new Code of Ethics training for all associates.

We celebrated the week by having a virtual scavenger hunt, where employees were tasked to find 10 items related to compliance on our intranet and website. Employees had to find a definition in a specific policy and send in the screen shot, they also had to find our Compliance Mascot (Ivee, the Compliance Cow) on an Ethics reportable form and send that screenshot. We had 1st-4th place winners with prizes. Photos of the employees with their prizes went out to the entire CSI Staff. The highlight of the week was our Compliance "What do you think about the Compliance Team' video. That really got the CSI Team Engaged. Later in the week, we hosted a gumbo lunch and gave each member a keychain with a compliance issue and challenged them to put the compliance issue into the right "bucket". The buckets were Ethics Issue, Medication Error, Shipping Error, HIPAA Breach, and other items that we track. We then brought the team together to review what issues went into which bucket. Some of them could go into multiple buckets. We finished the week with the announcement of the winners of the scavenger Hunt.
Madison County NY Government - For the year 2023, the Compliance Officer distributed a special edition newsletter containing important information about our corporate compliance program's developments throughout the past year. Participants had the opportunity to complete these puzzles and submit them to the Compliance Officer, entering into a raffle for a chance to win a gift card. Additionally, we had an activity called the "Compliance & Ethics Shield." In this activity, we enlarged the SCCE Shield Logo and replaced the center with a text box so employees could share their insights on what measures contribute to Madison County's compliance with the highest ethical standards. This innovative approach provided valuable insights into the aspects that employees believe foster a culture of compliance within our organization.

A compliance tip or education was sent out daily along with the virtual activities. Members of our compliance team and internal compliance committee suit ed up in black pants, white shirts, and a bow tie to clock in as casino workers and game dealers. Staff who attended received a deck of CICOA branded playing cards with our theme logo and a poker chip to cash in at a smoothie bar. We had coloring stations, photo booth, and refreshments - which included themed sugar cookies made by one of our talented staff members. The event included compliance and HIPAA trivia games such as roulette, Plinko, and "phishing."
